The Day We Didn’t Wait

Sunday wasn’t about fishing.

It was about time.

We showed up with rods, coolers, folding chairs—the usual excuses to be outside—but what we were really there for was something harder to name. Will was there. That’s what mattered.

There’s a different weight to a day like this when someone you love is fighting cancer. Conversations slow down. Laughter lands a little deeper. Even silence feels full instead of empty.

You start to notice things you normally pass right by.

The way someone tends the grill like it’s second nature.
The way a hand rests on a table between stories.
The way people stay close without needing a reason.

No one says it out loud, but everyone knows:
this isn’t just another Sunday.

It’s a reminder.

That time is not guaranteed.
That presence is a choice.
That showing up matters more than anything else.

Will is in the middle of his fight. The kind that tests your body, your patience, your belief in what’s ahead. But standing there, surrounded by friends, family, and a quiet kind of strength, it didn’t feel like he was fighting alone.

Because he isn’t.

We all are.

In the way we show up.
In the way we stay connected.
In the way we refuse to take these moments for granted.

There’s something powerful about community when it’s real. It doesn’t need to be loud. It doesn’t need to announce itself. It just exists—in shared meals, in small gestures, in the decision to be there for each other when it counts.

No grand speeches. No dramatic scenes.

Just people, together.

And somehow, that’s enough to carry more than we think.

We didn’t catch much that day. At least not in the water.

But we left with something better.

Perspective.
Gratitude.
And a reminder that even in the middle of uncertainty, there is still life happening—right now, right in front of us.

You don’t wait for the right moment.

You live it.
