The Stage Between Us

This past weekend, I turned a stage and an old piano into a temporary portrait studio.

No elaborate production. No giant crew. Just warm curtains, good light, and people willing to sit down for a moment and be seen.

One of my favorite things about portraiture is how quickly a person reveals themselves once they stop “posing.”

A piano becomes a conversation.
A glance becomes a story.
A couple laughs.
Someone remembers who they used to be for half a second.

In between performances — including a mesmerizing belly dance performance later in the evening — these small portraits started to feel less like event photography and more like fragments of America itself:

aging,
connection,
performance,
curiosity,
humor,
community.

Real people.
Real energy.
